Body splash, body mist or perfume: what’s the difference?
Three names you see on every shelf. Here's what each one is, how and where you apply it, and why a body splash is made for every day.

Body splash vs body mist vs perfume: if you’ve ever stood in front of a shelf wondering which one you need, you’re not alone. The names get mixed up a lot, especially in Egypt, where people call almost any scented body spray a “body splash”. So here’s the simple version.
The short answer
All three are ways to wear a scent you love. The difference is mostly about format: the size of the bottle, how you apply it and when you reach for it. A body splash or body mist usually comes in a bigger bottle, and you spray it generously all over the body. A perfume usually comes in a smaller bottle, and most people spray it a few times on the wrists and neck.
| Body splash / body mist | Perfume | |
|---|---|---|
| Bottle | Bigger sizes: 100 ml and 250 ml at Faya | Usually a smaller bottle |
| How to apply | Generously, all over the body | A few sprays on pulse points |
| Where | Neck, arms, shoulders and body | Wrists, neck and behind the ears |
| When | Every day: after the shower, before you go out, whenever you want to refresh | Often saved for a particular occasion |
| Layering | A lovely first layer for any scent | Usually added on top |
Body splash vs body mist: is there a difference?
Traditionally, you poured a body splash into your hand and splashed it onto the skin, while a body mist came in a spray bottle. Today, however, almost all of them are sprays, and most brands use the two names for the same thing: a scented spray for the whole body. So when you compare body splash vs body mist, you’re really looking at one product with two names. At Faya you’ll see both, and they mean the same everyday spray.
Why choose a body splash?
- It’s for your whole body. Spray it generously on your neck, arms and shoulders, wherever you like.
- It fits every day. Use it after the shower, before work or university, and before you go out.
- It’s easy to refresh. Keep a 100 ml bottle in your bag and spray again whenever you want.
- The sizes are generous. Choose 100 ml to carry with you or 250 ml to keep at home.
- There’s a scent for every mood. We have four scent families, so it’s easy to find the one you love.
Body splash or perfume: which one for which moment?
Overall, it’s really about habit and taste. Some people keep a perfume for special occasions, the way you keep a special outfit. Others wear their favourite body splash for everything, from a normal workday to a wedding. In fact, a body splash works beautifully for evenings too. Choose a warm vanilla or a sweet scent for a night out, and a clean musk or a fruity scent for the daytime.
How to get the most from your body splash
- Spray it on clean skin, right after your shower.
- Smooth on a body lotion first for soft skin, then spray your body splash on top.
- Spray generously on the neck, arms, shoulders and inner elbows.
- Let it dry on its own, without rubbing your wrists together.
- For your hair, use a mist made for hair, like Faya Hair Mist, which is alcohol-free.
Can I layer a body splash with perfume?
Yes. Layering is a nice way to make a scent your own. Spray your body splash first, all over, then add your other scent on top. You can also layer two body splashes. For example, vanilla and musk go well with almost anything.
Which Faya scent should I start with?
Start with how you want to feel. We group our scents into four families: fruity, soft floral, sweet vanilla and clean musk. Then browse them on the Shop by scent page. Every scent comes in 100 ml and 250 ml, so you can try a new one before going big. For layering ideas and new scents, follow us on Instagram.
